Day 54 - Fitness, Games, and Water?

Just some fads trends I have run into recently:

  • Apparently this website is the new hotness? Apparently it uses social networking (hmm this sounds familiar...) and game-like constructs like leveling-up, earning points, etc to incentivize the users to exercise, while keeping it public (like you are supposed to keep track of your progress etc). Personally not a fan of "gamification" particularly because of my profession but I guess this is for good cause... Just not sure how permanent the effects this will have if you only exercise if there're magic points being awarded to you, plus you could start to "cheat" the system by trying to optimize for points instead of personal health and fitness level.

  • Recently my workplace is going to start installing glorified water fountains in our gym. It's a fancy machine that dispenses not 1, not 2, but 3 types of water! You could choose from "pure", "oxygenated", and "ionized" water. I'm not even going to talk about how drinking oxygen instead of breathing it makes no sense. I'm just wondering what the maintenance must be like when they are refilling "ions"...
